Zamek w Ciechanowie został zbudowany na przełomie XIV i XV wieku przez księcia mazowieckiego Janusza I Starszego, dla obrony północno - wschodnich granic księstwa. Zamek był ośrodkiem władzy administracyjno - sądowniczej, pełnił też rolę schronienia dla mieszkańców miasta w czasie najazdów litewskich i krzyżackich.
Die Burg in Ciechanów wurde um die Wende vom 14. zum 15. Jahrhundert vom Herzog von Masowien, Janusz I. dem Älteren, zur Verteidigung der nordöstlichen Grenzen des Herzogtums erbaut. Die Burg war das Zentrum der Verwaltungs- und Justizgewalt und diente den Einwohnern der Stadt während der litauischen und germanischen Invasionen als Zufluchtsort.
The castle in Ciechanów was built at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries by the Duke of Masovia, Janusz I the Elder, to defend the north-eastern borders of the duchy. The castle was the center of administrative and judicial power, it also served as a shelter for the inhabitants of the city during the Lithuanian and Teutonic invasions.
